FUMBLING SOFTWARE HOUSE Microsoft has listed and explained the meaning of the many error codes that Windows Phone 7 users are getting when they try to load the first update.
HTC Trophy 7, LG Optimus 7 and Samsung Omnia 7 users had complained of problems on the Vole's "Microsoft Answers" Windows Phone 7 forum.
The first Windows Phone 7 update does not add any new features but is needed prior to the previously announced update that is scheduled for early March and will add cut and paste. Microsoft warns that this first update to enable further updates can take up to 40 minutes to carry out.
Today Microsoft published a guide for installing the first update with a table showing all the error codes. The explanations for the errors range from the phone not having the correct time and date to making sure your computer is connected to the Internet and ensuring there is enough free disk space on either the computer or the phone.
The Vole even recommends that users make sure they "are using the USB cable which was included with your phone".
Microsoft cannot guarantee there won't be problems even with a successful update and if users do have problems it advises them to restore their phones to the previous software version. µ
Since then much water has flowed, but the main event for Microsoft over the past month have problems with a small upgrade of its operating system, observed in 10% WP7-smartphones. Patch in question, had to prepare for a major upgrade Smartphones Windows Phone 7, and as a result it has led some WP7-smartphones into complete disrepair. http://tweetmobiles.blogspot.com/2011/03/microsoft-has-problems-with-updating.html In this case, the problem with their update was not resolved until now.
@steve - hahahaa.... clearly not a regular reader of the site then?!
Updated my phone last night without a problem. Omnia 7 UK
Love Windows Phone !
Why not easily google android updates fail and see how many millions have had bricked phones by Droid !!
MS deals with dumb dumb users that dont follow simple directions.
Compared to my HTC Hero update experience:
Had to download a ROM file, HTC software didn't work on Windows 7 64bit. Had to find an old XP laptop.
Flash my phone losing everything!
These update problems look tiny compared to my previous android updating experiences.
Anyone would have to be mad to buy a Windows Phone.
Read the above article again. This demonstrates how utterly incompetent Microsoft is in mobile.
Would you want to put yourself through that pain?
It also demonstrates why iPhone and Android sell really well, and why everyone has avoided Windows Phone and why Windows Phone sales are so low.
