Amazon offers video on demand for Prime users

Streaming service goes live
Tue Feb 22 2011, 15:10

ONLINE BOOKSELLER Amazon's Prime customers in the US are being treated to a new service, access to some 5,000 streaming TV shows and movies.

Although the service is currently limited to US customers a spokeswoman for the firm would not rule out a UK release, but then she would not confirm one either and chose only to say that the firm does not comment on its future plans.

If you are in the US and are an Amazon Prime customer and like to watch streaming videos though, then the Amazon video service is definitely for you. Amazon said that it is provided to customers at no additional cost, apart from the $79 a year paid for Prime membership.

"Adding unlimited instant access to thousands of movies and TV shows at no additional cost is a great way to give members even more value for their $79 annual Amazon Prime membership," said Robbie Schwietzer, VP of Amazon Prime.

There are a range of titles included in the Prime Instant Video service, such as Amadeus and Chariots of Fire, as well as the ill-advised puppets in space show, Farscape. µ

Agreed on keeping your hands off Farscape

Good show. Wish I had myself one of those little tooth cleaning animals they had in one of the episodes. They're somewhere across the universe, yet cleaning your teeth still leaves a minty aftertaste. And we DO NOT chew the little animal, or a sexy alien will beat us up, apparently.

Farscape was great

Hey!!! Hands off Farscape. For me it is one of the greatest Sci-Fi TV shows ever. The articulation and facial gestures in the characters Pilot and Rigel are amazing. The story, plot lines and characters in general are something I still enjoy today. I'm happy that Amazon is streaming this show. More people should enjoy this wonderful TV show. I bought the DVDs.
