Joining dots on consumers and enterprise
Tue Feb 22 2011, 11:46

INSECURITY FIRM McAfee has announced some mobile security software and entered the best testing phase of software for Android tablets.

McAfee has added a slew of mobile security software for consumers and businesses to its portfolio. As well as the Mobile Security Suite, it also has a Business Ready programme that is developing Wavesecure software for Android tablets.

The outfit is bundling its Wavesecure and Virusscan Mobile technologies as a single licence for partners. Virusscan Mobile software is available as a SDK for OEM vendors for use in embedded systems. Both software additions will allow punters to remotely lock, back up, restore and wipe stolen or half-inched devices. The company claims it will also protect against malware threats from social notworking sites, emails or instant messaging.

The Business Ready programme is due to launch int the next quarter and lets punters load McAfee Enterprise Mobility Management client software with the Mobile Security consumer client technology. With a lot of business mobile phones coming from consumer markets, the company wants to connect it's portfolio to cover all mobile computing scenarios. Devices with Wavesecure or VirusScan Mobile can connect to McAfee's enterprise client software.

Not one to miss a trick with mobile insecurity, McAfee is also hawking its Wavesecure software for Android tablets as well. Also expected in the next quarter when it's out of beta, that software will be developed to be used on Android tablets that have WiFi connectivity. µ

If it works as well as McAfee's PC security products...

...then it's a sure thing that any mobile device "protected" by McAfee will be infected with (more) malware within the month.

I've disinfected hundreds of PCs over the years. This week for the first time ever, I had to disinfect one that did NOT have McAfee or Symantec "protection." All of the rest did. And it didn't work.
