Twitter sinbins Blackberry apps over privacy

PRIVACY CONCERNS led Twitter to put some apps into a sort of sinbin for the weekend, cutting off access to the micro-blogging websites' API until they changed their ways.

Twidroyd and Ubersocial for Blackberry were accused of violating Twitter's terms and conditions that included issues about people's privacy. On Sunday Twitter said on its help centre site, "We've given the developers of twidroyd and UberSocial for Blackberry (formerly UberTwitter) access to the Twitter API again. Our initial review indicates that steps have been taken to remedy the violations for these applications."

Twitter explained in a 18 February posting that, while it suspend hundreds of applications on a daily basis because they are in violation of its usage policies, the website felt it necessary to publicise the suspension of Twidroyd and Ubersocial because they have a "larger number of users". µ
