TABLET MANUFACTURER Viewsonic showed off its smartphone tablet hybrid, the Viewpad 4.

Last week claims that Viewsonic would load Android 2.4 onto the Viewpad 4 led to huge interest in the device. Today at Mobile World Congress, Viewsonic showed off the Viewpad 4, running an interim verson of Android 2.2.

Viewsonic confirmed to The INQUIRER that it will be running "the latest version of Gingerbread" but would not confirm last week's reports that the Viewpad 4 will ship with Android 2.4.

Regardless of what version of Android the Viewpad 4 ships with, the device itself looks like a tasty bit of kit, with clean lines and a solid look and feel.

Given that Viewsonic has yet to confirm which version of Android the Viewpad 4 will be running, expect to wait a little while longer if you want to get your hands on it. µ

Chavtastic presentation ...

Where the hell do they get these no-hoper, brainless parrot, useless marketing reps? Whatever dingy estate they crawled out of should be demolished in the night with all occupants in it.

The guy has clearly rote-learned a bunch of specs that he has no idea of the meaning of - and he knows it - hence he's so nervous he fudges his words frequently to near-constantly.

This isn't the only demo presenter I'm talking about - there's heaps, all poms. The Americans tend to be slightly better, but that slight difference goes a long way. Some of the pom ladies are better than most of the pom men too.

And just to be more specific: he heaps praise on "connectivity" - b, g, n - well, whoopee, backwards compatibility as well as today's standard. Then quad-band GSM that we've all become fond of or come to expect - without *any* hint that this is a boon for travellers and not many others. Then heaps praise on the camera - without initially stating specs, eventually turns out it's only 5 megapixel on the back and paltry VGA on the front. Again heaps praise on the battery life without *any* stats.

For the inq, I guess it's nice to get a moving picture of a product in review, but these marketing lackeys are really low-value and low-quality.
