MWC: Samsung takes on the Ipad with a 10-inch Galaxy Tab

Android 3.0 Honeycomb ready

KOREA'S Samsung has put out direct competition against Apple's Ipad with its launch of the 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab.

The tablet is Android 3.0 Honeycomb ready and, like the Galaxy S2, it has a dual-core processor, and the 10.1 inch screen size of the Galaxy Tab directly targets the 9.7-inch Ipad.

galaxytab10main-420x0Last year's 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab proved to be a decent contender against the dominant Ipad, but the 10-inch version will mean the criticism that it was too small, in the words of Steve Jobs no less, will be silenced.

Samsung has partnered with Vodafone on the 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab, which means you'll need to go red if you want to pick up the tablet early. It'll also mean that there will be a number of tariffs available at launch offering voice calls and data.

There have been rumours that Apple will come out with a smaller version of the Ipad, but those have quieted down to the extent that we doubt it will launch one.

Apart from screen size and the power upgrade, there isn't much change on the surface with this version of the Galaxy Tab. That might not be enough when you consider that Apple's second generation Ipad 2 will be coming soon. µ

Gingerbread - exciting

It's a shame that Samsung havn't seen fit to officially release Gingerbread for the original Galaxy Tab.

Although this new tablet should stand up on it's own as a great device, I can't really imagine a faster performing Android device than the ones with ~1Ghz chips, so i'm really looking forward to getting my hands on one of these!

Really?? "Apart from screen size and the power upgrade, there isn't much change on the surface with this version of the Galaxy Tab"??

So, you don't consider the completely new Android 3.0 operating system - designed SPECIFICALLY for tablet - to be "much of a change"?? This new OS adds support for dual-core processors and a new user interface.
