T-Mobile gets an LG Honeycomb tablet

With 3D graphics

MOBILE OPERATOR T-Mobile will launch LG's G-Slate tablet running Android Honeycomb within the next few months.

The LG tablet will be one of the first to market with Google's updated tablet-based Android operating system.

An LG source told some hacks in November that the Korean company was working on an Ipad-like device with Android Honeycomb. Then dubbed the LG-Pad, it was said to have an Nvidia Tegra processor and be based on a large chassis to rival the Ipad's 9.7-inch screen.

T-Mobile has filled in the rest of the blanks with full specifications and a features list of what it now calls the G-Slate. Of particular note is the addition of 3D graphics support with a rear facing HD 1080p camera capable of stereoscopic recording.

Punters will need glasses to view 3D content but LG didn't say which 3D technology it's using or if it'll bundle any glasses in the box. It'll probably be active shutter technology so punters will have to spend a fortune on glasses. At least it means you will be able to create your own home movie 3D content to take your mind off the fact that the world is still waiting for a variety of proper stereoscopic content to appear.

3D playback needs decent hardware specifications so the G-Slate has a 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor and 32GB of storage. There's full Adobe Flash support, one up on Apple before it even hits the shelves. The tablet will also have a built-in gyroscope and accelerometers.

T-Mobile is prepping the G-Slate for launch this Spring in the US on its 4G network. There's no price yet but we expect launch details for Blighty will follow later. µ
