Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 gets multitouch, owners still not happy

What they want is Froyo
Wed Feb 02 2011, 10:23

MOBILE PHONE MAKER Sony Ericsson has started rolling out an update to its Xperia smartphones that will offer multitouch support for its flagship Android device, the Xperia X10.

In a blog post, the company also said it will deliver optimizations, bug fixes and some language additions. The multitouch functionality won't be provided to X8 or Xperia mini owners, though.

Sony Ericsson originally had no plans to support multitouch for the X10, but in a blog post last year it said it would, due to a technological breakthrough.

This might be a bit of consolation for long-suffering Xperia owners, who have been quite vocal about their dissatisfaction with the slow pace of the company's software updates. For example, some owners are still waiting for an update to Android 2.1, all the while watching similarly marketed handsets from HTC and Samsung already running Android 2.2 since last year.

But this update is very far away from being Android version update software. On its most recent blog post, Sony Ericsson has had to remove a few posts from critical Xperia owners, most likely due to a few venting their frustrations with the company.

Of those comments that survived, Ismail echoed the thoughts of many when he wrote, "What a useless update. We need Froyo, don't you hear our voice?? If you ignore your customer needs, you'll lose your market." µ

Amazing BS

Great article.
SE are liars and morons!
They lied about the hardware, software and customer agreements.

A SE individual actually admitted that the x10 was a huge learning curve for SE.

A learning curve at the expense of the users.

SE = SHIT

I have been a SE customer for a number of years, the x10 was my first android smart phone - I will never, EVER go with SE again. UNLESS they start regularly updating their phones.

Very disappointed sony.

Phony-Ericsson

Tyron, you're absolutely right - get over to the X10 forums on talk.sonyericsson.com and it's pretty obvious that X10 owners like their device a heck of a lot more than SE do!

On the upside, there's now a flourishing community trying/supporting CyanogenMod on the X10, which is close to being "released" on the X10 - only video recording is u/s. So we can get that 3.5x speed up that FroYo gives, along with all the other goodies. Oh, and that comes with dual-touch.

Who needs SE? ;)

Come on Sony !!!

Sony Ericsson refuses to update the Xperia X10 to Android 2.2 or Android 2.3, they claim that the user experience of Android 2.1 is on par with Android 2.2, well Sony; I think you should let the customers decide, and the opinion seems pretty unanimous, we are not satisfied with 2.1. Many of the other phone manufacturers have already got their products running on 2.2 and 2.3. Even LG who isn't even a huge competitor for Sony Ericsson has released the 2.2 and 2.3 update to many of their older devices, this is disappointing considering Sony Ericsson won't even release it on one of their flagship phones, and quite frankly the multitouch update is very disappointing. I am not sure how many very, very unhappy people it is going to take to get you to care about your loyal customers, but please, we love Sony Ericsson and we love our Xperia X10's but it is a HUGE disappointment that we are not getting 2.2 or 2.3. Sony Ericsson, many people have voiced their opinions and thoughts, and so have I, a 16 year old kid; I’m sure that if I can see that there is a problem here, you can too. It is not too late to win your customers back, please release the update. Thank you.

Getting there

Sony Ericsson are still well ahead of the others in terms of camera, mp3 and battery as far as I'm concerned. They don't always have it right re software, but they don't tell you want u can and can't do like Apple. I think the cybershot phones are amazing (I own a fantastic W995).

Serves them right!

Only very naive people will buy anything called Sony Ericsson after the Satio disaster! Even if you never had it, news about it being pulled off the shelves, along with so many negative reviews about both, the phone and the company's deling with it, should have been enough for anyone to forever stay away from anything called Sony Ericsson! Now enjoy the next SE disaster.
