AMD launches Firepro 2270 and ATI Firepro V5800 DVI cards

Not for the unprofessional

PROFESSIONAL GRAPHICS cards are AMD's latest announcement with the AMD Firepro 2270 and ATI Firepro V5800 DVI products.

Aimed at professionals in the medical, financial, design and engineering fields that need whizzy graphics, the ATI Firepro V5800 DVI can drive two high-resolution dual link DVI displays and allow users to stretch one image or application across both screens for an expanded field of view.

The card has a GPU with 800 stream processors and a 128-bit memory interface. It comes with 1GB of GDDR5 RAM and has two dual-link DVI outputs, each with maximum resolution of 2560x2048 at 60Hz with packed pixel mode. It draws 75W and supports OpenGL 4.1, DirectX 11 and OpenCL 1.1.

AMD has not put out stream processor or memory interface information for the Firepro 2270 but we are told it is AMD's only low-profile, passively cooled, dual-display, triple set support graphics card. It needs a 350W power supply or greater and supports OpenGL 4.1 and DirectX 11 but not OpenCL 1.1. It has two DVI-VGA adapters and a DMS-59 connector and DMS-59 cable for DVI and VGA support. But in a shockingly disappointing move the cable is sold separately.

In a surprisingly candid statement, Janet Matsuda, general manager of AMD Professional Graphics said, "Because of their superior power consumption and multi-display capabilities, solutions based on the AMD FirePro 2270 and ATI FirePro V5800 DVI deliver strong value for financial, medical and corporate workstation environments."

Available worldwide, the US prices are $149 for the Firepro 2270 and $469 for the ATI Firepro V5800 DVI, and here we all thought AMD had deep-sixed the ATI brand a while ago. Knowing rip-off Britain you can expect the prices to be exactly the same in the UK, but in pounds. µ

Always a pleasure.

So thats £100 for the 5800 (5770) card and £369 for the CAD driver support?

Nice.

Alternatively wait 6 months and pick the 2270 on Ebay for £50 when they get pulled out of all the Dell and HP workstations for something a little more powerful.
