Asustek still loves netbooks

Not taking the tablets yet

A BIG MAKER OF NETBOOKS is not abandoning them to concentrate on tablets.

Asustek has said that it will stick to its core netbook PC products rather than moving on to tablets.

The outfit told Reuters that it expects sales of netbooks will be flat this year but revenues will rise as it brings more high-end products to market.

While it is joining the tablet market with its own model, Asus said that netbooks will remain its focus.

"Different clients have different demand, we still see potential in the netbook market," said Kevin Lin, general manager of Asustek.

Asustek wants to sell six million netbooks this year, giving it around 20 per cent global market share. It said last month it shipped 6 million units in 2010, and it expects double-digit market share for its tablet.

The company said it will launch its first tablet model in Taiwan as early as March, using Google's Android 3.0 operating system. µ

Oxymoron

What's a high end netbook? If it's a large screen, a laptop with horse-power seems a better bargain.

Asus will sell anything

Experience has shown that Asus is a marketing company these days. They will sell whatever they can make the most profit on, especially if they can be first to market with a half-baked product.

P.S. The new ad bar sucks.
