THOSE STILL RUNNING Windows XP have been told that they will have to either update Windows Live Essentials to something a little more 2011 or install a compulsary patch which has been sitting around since last May.
This week the Vole is rolling out a minor update to Windows Live Messenger and other Windows Live Essentials programs.
It contains a set of important security updates, performance improvements, targeted bug fixes, and some other, minor changes.
Microsoft has been trying to get people to update since last May, and has decided that because the security improvements are too important that this needs to be made mandatory.
Those who hold onto Windows XP for grim death will not have to upgrade to Windows Live Messenger 2011. We guess the Vole does not think those who are running XP are in any hurry to update any software on their machines if it has to make upgrades compulsary after nearly a year. µ
You've managed to brand yourself as a Microsoft shill without actually falling into the blatant commercial pitch category that would have gotten your post banned from this thread.
It takes years of practice to attain that level of astroturf perfection.
Ballmer is proud of you.
If you are using an old computer with Windows XP, then you are missing out on today's entertainment stuff like HD video and Windows Media Center, not to mention that your computer may eventually crash and burn due to old age. If you are due to upgrade to a new Windows 7 PC with the current multi-core CPUs, large hard drives, and more RAM, then go for it! Making a $1000+ investment on a premium PC with a 1 TB HDD, Intel Core i7 2600 "Sandy Bridge" CPU, and up to 32 GB RAM, brand-name or custom-built, can go a long way and give you more flexibility in a system that will last a very long time.
Windows Live and the word Essential in the same heading or sentence...I think not...there is absolutely nothing essential about windows live other than providing it a swift passage to the rubbish bin.....second most useless software on the planet after Vista....
...we'd all upgrade. But unfortunately we all can't afford a new computer every time Bill rolls out a new (but barely improved) version of Windows. Sure, you can get an upgrade for a hundred dollars, but that's not cheap either. Might as well spend another hundred and get a whole new computer. Maybe I'll just change over both of my computers to Linux and save the $$$.
My daughter's netbook, and my home desktop have XP. Maybe half of the desktops at work have XP. We don't use Windows Messenger, why would we?
T' hell with XP. Nuthin' beats my Lite-Win98 SE!
Are people that aren't using the DRM adventure called w7 even using all that 'live' stuff?
