Porn can't be stopped say UK Internet providers

ISPs oppose government opt-in plan
Tue Dec 21 2010, 11:14

UK INTERNET service providers (ISPs) have said it's impossible to block all pornography, after the Government went off on a moral crusade demanding that they do just that.

Ed Vaizey, an MP and the communications minister who doesn't know what net neutrality is, declared just the other day that ISPs will have to block porn or else.

Vaizey planned to meet with BT, Virgin Media and Talk Talk but they were one step ahead and ISPs started telling the media that blocking everything is not a feasible option.

At the end of the day individual human beings do actually have to take responsibility for their own actions. Unless they're bankers, of course.

According to the BBC Nicholas Lansman, secretary general of the Internet services providers association (Ispa) said, "Ispa firmly believes that controls on children's access to the internet should be managed by parents and carers with the tools ISPs provide, rather than being imposed top-down."

Ispa's members already block all websites known to have child pornography through a co-operative arrangement. The association's members have said that it is much tougher to block everything that might be deemed pornographic, which would presumably include the likes of the Nuts and Zoo magazines. µ

yawn...

the same old, tired, arguments....

An inquisitive child will ALWAYS seek to get past any blocks that get in its way... they have the poor adults beaten, with PC knowledge!

the only solution is to educate, not block...

EG, most want to smoke, to look like 'a man'.. dont stop them, just show how awfully smelly, and hated by women it is... Shame is, nicotine is a very powerful drug..

teach them love, honor and respect for women, and they will see how unlike real life porn is....

Shame is, most women dont seem to care about mens needs, is it any wonder that porn is a multi-million industry???

The genie is out of the bottle, and this microscopic country cannot stop the whole world...

XXX domain to keep it safely tucked away? even the states does not want it, for their own stupid business reasons!!!

Save the children!

Dictators like Ed Vaizey want to convert the Internet into another government controlled TV network. Regulating pornography is just the first step.
Save the children!

Orwellian

Parents bear responsibility for raising their off-spring, or nowadays, those who have accepted the duty of care. Nature intended that parents ensured the survival of children, common sense is that they impart their values to them, by be interested in their development.

As the Australian attempt proved, the Rabbit Proof Firewall, even in it's ineffectiveness, is sufficient to remove websites on political, rather than moral, grounds.

Opt-in is already the case

I do not get it. The entire internet is already opt-in. Nobody told or forced you to get a home connection. If you want to opt-out, then please don't subscribe to the internet.

Maybe the politicians need an opt-out button attached so that they can be muted on demand.
