Sony announces three ranges of SD cards

Thanks for the memories

GIVE US AN 'E' PLEASE, says Sony with its ranges of SD cards that have the names Expert, Experience and Essential.

The Expert range will provide 20MB/sec transfer speed for its 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacity cards. The highest performing of the three ranges, it can be expected to be the most expensive. Sony says it's for the user that wants to play around with High Definition video and 3D images.

For those for whom a 15MB/sec transfer speed is sufficient, there will be the middling Experience range that has 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacity cards. Sony says it's also good for HD video so you might want to save a few pennies and opt for this mid-range, er, range. We suspect though that the Expert range will be priced just low enough for people to think it's worth the extra few pence.

For the budget shopper, however, Sony will offer the Essential range. Described as "entry level" or what The INQUIRER calls cheap as chips, it will have 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacity cards.

For the Experience and Expert ranges Sony is also offering software called X-Pict Story. The program allows users to combined their photos with music and "beautiful visual effects". Sounds nauseating. µ
