HARDWARE VENDOR Viewsonic has released a compact wireless presentation gateway that connects PCs or laptops to projectors.
The WPG-360 enables users to connect over 802.11b/g/n to send content from PCs and laptops to projectors or any display with a standard VGA input.
It supports full motion video at 1024x768 up to 720p, which is pretty impressive for a budget wireless box. But that is going to be marginal on anything less than 802.11n wireless networks. The last thing you want in a slick presentation are judder-filled staccato frame rates. However Viewsonic claims the WPG-360 can cope with more than one user at a time for split-screen presentations.
The WPG-360 also has an Ethernet port so users can go online to grab anything from the Internet if they want it in their presentations. It also has a WiFi protected set-up (WPS) feature for more secure configurations.
"The effortless and quick installation of the WPG-360 Wireless Presentation Gateway makes this an ideal gateway device for any business that looks to lower the costs of mobile presentations," said ViewSonic European marketing manager James Coulson.
Viewsonic has been doing some pretty interesting things with WiFi hardware recently. In October the WiFi Alliance announced WiFi Direct certification for peer-to-peer connections that don't rely on networks to hook up. Viewsonic added that technology to its Apple beating Viewpad tablets.
The WPG-360 wireless presentation gateway is available now for a £89.99 excluding VAT. µ
