Opera sings its way onto the Galaxy S smartphone

Speeding up online browsing
Thu Dec 09 2010, 12:10

BROWSER MAKER Opera has announced that its Opera Mini mobile browser is now available for the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone.

The Opera Mini mobile browser will be preloaded in select markets during the initial phase, but can be downloaded from Opera's website by Galaxy S users.

Opera says that Samsung Galaxy S users will now gain faster page loading and improved speed, thanks to the company's ability to compress data by up to 90 per cent before sending content to the phone. This compression also reduces data load, meaning lower data charges for smartphone users.

The technology has been one of the reasons that Opera has managed to do rather well in getting its browser onto the mobile market while being a bit of an also ran in the PC market.

"We are very glad to provide the best mobile Internet experience to Samsung's Galaxy S users and Opera fans in selected markets," said Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software. "We also hope that global fans can get the chance in the near future." µ
