PLACE SHIFTING TV VENDOR Sling Media has released a mobile version of its telebox service for the Ipad.
The company already has several hardware kits and apps that let users watch their TV content in high quality on the move. Now Sling Media has got the shiny Ipad in its sights with the launch of the Slingplayer Mobile.
The app has a revamped programme guide that has been re-jigged for the Ipad's 9.7-inch LED backlit display and Sling Media reckons it's a natural home for its high quality TV catch-up service.
"A Slingbox is the perfect accessory to an iPad," said John Paul, EVP of products at Sling Media.
"When combined with the new SlingPlayer Mobile app, now anyone with an iPad can enjoy a beautiful, personalized TV experience anywhere in the world."
Slingplayer Mobile is priced at only £17.99 but you will need to pay out about £200 for one of its Slingbox products.
The INQUIRER reported in September that Slingmedia's kit picks up high-definition signals including over the air DVBT digital signals, HDTV cable or satellite receivers, or HD PVR's and sends them to a desktop. Slingplayer Mobile has to connect to one of the Slingboxes and replays your desktop TV content via the Ipad.
Sling Media already had a player app out for the Iphone but Apple fanbois will have to splash out again if they want the Ipad version.
It could scale up the Iphone version on the Ipad but that defeats Sling Media's point of having high quality video content on mobile devices. It also means squeezing a few more dollars from the cult of shiny toys. µ
