STORAGE KIT MAKER Synology has unveiled its Diskstation DS411j, a 4-bay NAS server dedicated to backups and data sharing.

Equipped with a 1.2GHz processor, the DS411j comes with 128MB or DDR2 RAM, a 1Gb LAN port and two USB ports. The fully loaded DS411j consumes merely 42.9W in operation and only 16W in standby. It is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux desktops for backing up data and emails.

Smartphone users, including owners of Iphone and Android phones, can also upload their photos and videos to the DS411j. Remote Internet access to the DS411j is also possible.

The Diskstation uses encrypted data transmission, HTTPS, a built-in firewall, and IP auto-block to ensure that filesharing over the Internet is well protected.

The NAS server is also compliant with DLNA and UPnP DMA making it possible to stream multimedia files to a TV set and a stereo system.

"This multitalented and affordable DS411j is ideal for home users who need a storage and multimedia center to backup data and to enjoy their digital content via different gadgets," said Chad Jiang, product manager of Synology. µ
