ANYONE RUNNING a sweepstakes on what the next version of Google's Android mobile OS will be called will have to pay out to the person who had 'Ice Cream', since that is the name of Android version 4.
So far we have had donuts, gingerbreads, cupcakes, eclairs, frozen yoghurts, honeycombs and now Ice Cream, which is bad for our waistlines, but apparently good in the mobile operating system sphere.
In an interview with Forbes ARM President Tudor Brown let slip the name, which has not yet been confirmed by Google.
Forbes points out that the Android names have come in alphabetical order, so, first we had Cupcake, then Donut, then Eclair, then Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, and - if ARM is to be believed - next is Ice Cream.
Alternatives - Google sticks with dessert names - could include Iron Sorbet, Ink Tart or maybe Italian Chocolate, but we are stretching it a bit there, so Ice Cream is perhaps the only logical option.
It might be a while before we get covered in Ice Cream though, as Android 2.2 'Froyo' is barely upon us and we still have Gingerbread and Honeycomb to come.
We've asked Google for confirmation, or even non-confirmation, of the Ice Cream name, and are still awaiting a response. µ
Jelly.
... and if they decide to take other direction later on... the "L" may come out as Lemonade.
I call Jelly!!!
