ANYONE LOOKING to green up their living room while still watching Eastenders could turn to Philips, which has launched what it calls Europe's greenest television.
TV firms have a tendency to give their units snappy names and this is no exception. Get your notepad ready, since if you are planning on heading down to your nearest electronics shed for this one you are going to have to ask for the 42PFL6805H Econova.
The Econova is a 42-inch LED backlit LCD unit that combines performance and style with enough green credentials to keep even the most telly-phobic communes happy.
Philips said that its green fingertips had touched everything during the production of the Econova, which is a relief, as it would have been disappointing if the unit were to come wrapped in baby seal fur, for example.
Energy consumption has been reduced by 60 per cent, while apparently the rest of the telly uses the same technology as its other, ice cap melting models. Its materials are all recyclable, yet it 'exudes quality' according to Philips, which practically wept over the beauty of its green baby.
Helping to remove living room clutter and the use of chrome and black wood is a stand that can either be used on top of tables or as a wall bracket, while - and this is particularly nice - when you turn it off it actually consumes no power. Imagine that, it's off, and not consuming power. Why has no one thought of that before?
Even the remote is solar powered, though we can't be sure how this will work when most remotes spend their time down the back of the sofa or in the dominant spouse's hand.
The Philips Econova green television will cost £1,200 when it is released next month. µ
