DISPLAY MANUFACTURER Sharp is dangling its toes in the frankly 'meh' 3D television market with the announcement of a 3D capable Blu-ray player.
The jazzily titled Sharp BD-HP90S, which sounds like a form you have to fill in while travelling, has a futuristic contemporary design and is pretty slim. In fact, judging by the photos we've seen, it's slim enough to fall behind a bookcase.
Fortunately, Sharp said that as well as standing it on its end, you can also use it horizontally, and, it added, "Its performance will remain the same no matter whether you place it vertically or horizontally", which is good to know.
Drunk on its own design, or with an eye on the git market, Sharp added, "If you want to make a feature of it, BD-HP90S can even be mounted on your wall as a beautiful piece of gadget art." Yeah, we suppose you can do that, if you are that sort of person.
If you haven't caught the 3D bug, you can still play regular 2D discs, according to Sharp, while the box will also stream media wirelessly from your PC, meaning that you can burn your cables and chuck away any hard copy DVDs if you want to do that.
The BD-HP90S will be available in the UK from November and will cost £379.99, or £399 if you buy it through Sharp. µ

3D may not be selling as well as expected. Is it being forced down our throats or is there real demand for it. There is some Harris Poll data on buzz and demand here if you are interested
