A BUNCH of 4G Wimax-ready laptops are being rolled out by Toshiba.
It claims that if the technology takes off, Wimax will eliminate the need for wireless hotspots.
Carl Pinto, VP of product development at Toshiba America said that the outfit is expanding its effort to provide more Wimax-ready laptops.
Wimax is already available in 54 cities in the US but there is little hardware out there to exploit it.
According to Pinto, Toshiba will put the technology into the Satellite A665, M645, E205 and Portégé R705 ranges of compact laptop and larger notebook PCs.
The Satellite A665 will also ship with a 16-inch diagonal HD TruBrite widescreen display, Intel Core processors and optional Nvidia GeForce graphics card.
Wimax will be available on the Satellite A665-S6086, Satellite A665-S6094, Satellite A665-S6097 Satellite A665-S6098 and the 3D-capable Satellite A665-3DV6 models, priced from $804.99.
The Satellite M645 laptop has a 14-inch diagonal HD TruBrite widescreen display, Intel Core processors and a premium audio package with Harman-Kardon speakers. Wimax will be available on the Satellite M645-S4063 and Satellite M645-S4070 models, from $759.99.
The Portégé R705 will ship with a 13.3-inch diagonal widescreen display. It will weigh three pounds and be an inch thin.
Intel's Wireless Display makes it possible for punters to wirelessly connect the laptop to a big screen HDTV. It will hit the shops with a $899.99 price tag.
The Satellite E205 ships with a 14-inch diagonal LED-backlit HD TruBrite display. It has an Nvidia GeForce 310M GPU, Intel Wireless Display, a Core i5 processor, and an LED backlit keyboard. It will cost $1,079.99. µ
