Twitter fixes security flaw

No more mouseover hijacking

SOCIAL NOTWORKING OUTFIT Twitter has fixed a security flaw that sent some users to visit porn websites after it was hacked.

Yesterday we reported how Twitter was flooded with tweets by users who complained on the homepage under such topic headings as "Twitter got hacked".

The security flaw allowed messages to pop up and third-party websites to open when a user moved his or her mouse over a link. According to Sophos the messages had spread without users' consent.

Media friendly Sophos spokesman Graham Cluley said that thousands of people a minute were being hit in the attack.

He told Reuters that in the worst case it was redirecting some users to a Japanese porn website.

Finally, hours later, a tweet from a Twitter employee said the site was "fully patched" and that hackers could no longer exploit the flaw. Personal user data was not compromised, he said. µ
