FRUIT THEMED Apple's faith-based security has taken a hit, forcing it to release an urgent patch this week.
When Microsoft does something like this, Apple fanbois pat themselves on the back and say it could never happen to them, because Steve Jobs protects them from all malware.
However it looks like this express patch for all Mac users running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, including Server users, fixes a vulnerability that could result in a remote attack accessing AFP shared folders without a valid password.
Apple said that Security Update 2010-006 is recommended for all users and "improves the security" of Mac OS X.
According to Apple, "an error handling issue exists in AFP Server which means that a remote attacker with knowledge of an account name on a target system may bypass the password validation and access AFP shared folders."
"By default, File Sharing is not enabled. This issue does not affect systems prior to Mac OS X v10.6," the description ends.
Apple has been finding a lot of bugs in its software lately. In August it released a fix for more than 13 of the blighters. Apparently perfection is not what it used to be, now it is something more magical. µ
I think you'll find that an *Apple* fanboi can pat himself on the back *and* rub his tummy at the same time.
;-)
Why? The Apple folk pat themselves with smugness whenever Windows gets security updates.
Actually, we're the only three people who still read Nick's crap.
We should not be happy when other computing platforms suffer from security problems. It's like feeling happy when someone else has cancer.
No one is commenting on this? Where are the flame wars?
BTW, suck it Apple nerds! I'm Rick James Beotch!
