ACER'S PLANS to put Android on its smartphones show no signs of abating as Liquid Metal makes an unexpected appearance in online.
The Russian blog that posted some specifications yesterday might not be all mouth and no trousers as it came up with some pictures today. We have no idea where it got hold of the information and we've never seen the website leak any product details before.
While the specifications listed by the Russian website could have been conjured up from thin air, the photos don't look like Photoshopped mock-ups. But don't quote us on that.
Acer's current smartphones have a plastic exterior but the leaked pictures look like it is going for a brushed aluminium look for Liquid Metal. The top of the phone sports the on-off button and there's obviously an integrated camera at the front. However, that's about it. The website hasn't put up any photos of the interior so that could be an indication that it's a fake. We'll see if any more pictures are forthcoming.
The leaked specifications suggest the Liquid Metal model will come with the Android 2.2 "Froyo" OS and support for Bluetooth 3.0. The 3.61-inch screen is labeled as capacitive multitouch with 800x480 resolution and has "Shell 4.0", which we assume is the fourth iteration of the exterior design. Liquid Metal allegedly also will have an 800MHz Qualcomm MSM 7230-1 processor and 512MB of DDR RAM.
If the rumoured specifications and features hold up and that is a brushed aluminium case, Acer could have a good smartphone on its hands. µ
"Just a guess:

I'm pretty sure apple bought exclusive rights to liquidmetal for use in consumer electronics. It would seem unlikely acer would therefore be able to use either the product or the name
The Shell 4.0 reference is not related to the exterior, but the UI.
Disappointing that the CPU tops out at 800MHz.

"all mouth and no trousers" - I'm going to have to try that line, never heard it before.
It's Liquid Metal! Right after you take it apart, it re-assembles itself!
