Opera gets into IPTV

Well everyone else is
Fri Sep 10 2010, 12:37

WORLD WIDE WEB viewer maker Opera has signed a contract with Amino, which makes IPTV software.

Under the deal Amino will flog the Opera web browser as an option for shipments of its AmiNET110 set-top boxes, and will also work with Opera to integrate web browser technology into its next generation products.

Amino wanted to use the Opera 8.5 SDK because it is faster and has lower memory requirements.

A spokesman for Opera said that it will bring web surfing to users of Amino's IPTV set-top boxes.

As a part of Opera and Amino's partnership, Amino can also provide application developers with the Amino software development kit with the Opera browser.

Opera's browser technology has been ported to Amino's Intact IPTV software stack. Amino's AmiNET110 set-top boxes with the Opera browser under their bonnets are currently available.

Middleware vendors including Dreampark, Orca, Industria, Tandberg and Alcatel also have software products available for Amino set-top boxes running Opera. µ
