Mobile World Congress embraces Apple

Gets down with the latest fashion
Tue Sep 07 2010, 16:00

IPHONE DEVELOPERS will be getting a warm welcome at next year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) after organisers announced that it has partnered with Macworld Mobile for the event.

The announcement means that there will be a whole day of events supporting IOS developers including seminars and training. It also serves as a milestone in the maturity and success that Apple's IOS has enjoyed over the past two years, as developers clamour to get applications out the door.

GSMA, the organisers behind MWC, said that it also managed to rope in Blackberry maker Research In Motion and Palm as partners for the Application Developer Conference. However given the footholds that Apple's IOS and Google's Android have, it is likely that most developers will be heading to IOS related events.

CEO of IDG World Expo, Mary Dolaher, spoke of the opportunities that the event will bring for developers. "At Mobile World Congress, we will help international Ios developers to strengthen their skills, as well as facilitate connections with other developers and the worldwide audience of mobile decision makers who attend."

Events such as this will help Apple's IOS remain competitive as the number of Android devices grows rapidly with the number of devices directly related to the potential market for any application. Google holds many events all around the world to promote its open source operating system and, while Apple does have an active development community, it risks defections should Android continue its rise to prominence unabated.

The next MWC will be held during 14-17 February 2011 in Barcelona and will be the scene for many mobile phone announcements. µ

Steve Jobs is god

How to build an APPLE COMPUTER (R)...

1. take a mid-range intel processor from a PC
2. add some mid-range RAM and peripherals (from a PC)
2. place it onto a PC equivalent motherboard so the system is actually a mid-range PC
3. remove functionality and change the connectors so they can only be used with your companies products
4. add a mid-range hard-disk with limited capacity so users have to upgrade later
5. install a CLOSED Operating System with limited functionality and a poor user interface
6. make sure software for that operating system is CLOSED and there is no API so people cannot develop their own sofware
6. put it all in a shiny box so trendy people think its cool (especially arty people)
7. add Digital Rights Management and remove any means of securing the system against hackers
8. add a kernel layer so that people can run windows applications on the intel PC chip anyway
9. trademark any marketing insignia to enable you to sue or issue legal action in order to make more money
10. market the device as much better than a "PC" with malicous advertising (even though it is a mid-range PC anyway?)
11. sell it for at least 2x the cost of the equivalent PC components
12. charge users for operating system upgrades even though they are required to "fix" a previously inferior operating system
13. charge customers 2x as much for upgrades that will be required because they could only afford the "base-line" model
14. spend your profits on opening glamourous stores across west-london...

Does this mean...

that Apple will finally cough up for the GSM patents they've been using without any form of payment?

Seems a bit weird for them to be "embraced" when they're clearly not playing by the same rules as every other member, and have no intention of doing so.
