Meego tips up on the Wetab
GERMAN TABLET MAKER Wetab GmbH said that its tablet, the Wetab, which has been developed with the finest minds at Intel, will be the first one based on the Meego operating system.
It will not be called Meego by the time it is shoved under the bonnet of the Wetab, it will be called the Wetab OS.
In addition to native Linux applications, many other applications will be able to run on the Wetab, including applications designed for the Android OS, Adobe Air, and Meego itself.
The outfit has compiled a list of interesting apps and they will be available on the Wetab Market, from which users will be able to upload them directly onto the Wetab.
It means that developers can program in the languages that they are familiar with and users will be able to choose from an abundance of very different applications.
The project involves the 4tiitoo outfit, which besides bringing in another daft name to the melting pot has been sorting out the Webkit web-browser and HTML rendering engine. The other daft name involved in the project is Neofonie, so it is all starting to feel like the entire programme has been designed by the Telly Tubbies.
All of this gives us a clue that the tablet will be able to run HTML5, Adobe Flash and Java.
Wolfgang Petersen, director of the software and services group at Intel Germany said that the Wetab is the first tablet based on Meego and the Intel Atom processor. Putting Meego on the Wetab shows how the operating system can be adapted for use on a tablet.
Apparently the Wetab will be unveiled any day now, we just hope not by Laa-Laa. µ

The craziest of all names is the name of the CEO of Neofonie and WeTab: He is called "Helmut Hoffer von Ankershoffen" and was born "Oertel"!
Started out as someone's brand name, I think. I don't know if English-language words have the cachet in German that French words do in English.
Anyway, would it be not silly if they did just call it Meego? I do not agree, sir!
