US President backs Intel

Will finance IT outfits to come up with ideas
Mon Sep 06 2010, 11:12

THE LEADER of the French-backed terrorists that took over the former British Colony of Virgina has agreed to give IT companies huge tax credits for coming up with wizard wheezes.

According to Oregon Live, the idea was first suggested to US President Obama by the chip giant Intel, which has a lot of R&D plans, many of which are hatched out in foreign parts although its primary research campus is at Ronler Acres in Hillsboro, Oregon.

With proposals for the credit to be increased and for it to be made permanent, and not the temporary measure it has been, Obama would effectively be giving $100 billion in research credits over 10-years to corporate research that includes the chip makers. The idea has supporters in both political parties so it should get through.

In an amazing coincidence, Obama's decision comes shortly after Intel CEO Paul Otellini attacked the Democrats and their economic agenda after formerly having been a supporter of the President.

So it looks like the US administration has decided it is a good idea to start charming the tech sector again.

Intel has made no secret of the fact that it has loads of places where it can site its R&D and plants. Some governments are even prepared to give it credits for more than it will cost to build the places. µ

fair abd foul

America is in huge debt, the economy is still staggering, manufacturing has all moved overseas, so what does the US have? technical prowess and inventions and patents and licensing.
So yes it is smart to encourage R&D for the overall economy, as long as it is done equally for all companies.
And yes of course companies like intel like that and point it out, but it can still be true that it helps the US.

Question that remains is how the WTO can explain that they attack the EU for the government supporting companies when they don't now punish the US in turn.
But the WTO is of course in US hands, so I expect they will suddenly not be available for comment.

is Scale OverEmphasized....

Way Back 4004 was 1,000 nm. by 386/486, slipped to 270 nm, by hammer & K8, 135/90 nm . thats 20 years to drop to 1/4 size, not 36 months. 16 years to drop to 1/4 again, faster reduction, yet design can be seen as forefront. scale running out 2day, why hasten, when effective qulity of engineering is best.

GO SLOW. Plenty of time, yet seems 45 nm & below is DO OVER. So why not go,go thru IT again, in meantime, sub 32 will become reliable. at least talkin' High k/G.
better material makes better processor & low K will be saving grace, yet, too fast. time will aid design.
