THE FORMER CEO of HP, who was fired for wining and dining a former soft porn star and then hiding it in his expenses, seems to be about to land a job at Oracle.
While many people who are fired for breach of trust issues face a long time on the dole, Mark Hurd appears likely to find a role with the peddler of storage software Oracle.
Obviously he is not going to replace his mate Larry Ellison who is the CEO at Oracle. But the Wall Street Journal has reported that Hurd has been seen at Oracle's head office with his CV in hand and his best suit on.
It is not clear what he will actually do at Oracle, or whether he will be allowed an Internet connection or which accountant will get the poisoned chalice of looking at his expenses claims.
However Ellison could want Hurd to help him integrate the Sun part of the Oracle empire, which is proving to be a bit of a square peg in a round hole.
While Oracle bought Sun for its software, the hardware side of the company is having a hard time turning a profit. Ellison might be hoping that Hurd can get it shifted around for him. µ
He did some pretty unpopular things at HP that jettisoned it past Dell in sales.
Despite his bad personal judgement I think he could work at Oracle.
Personally I though HP ditching him was a bad call. They should have cleaned up the mess and moved forward.
Where they are going now is anyones guess.
