Symantec gets into bed with Snoop Dogg

Security firm launches C-rap contest
Fri Sep 03 2010, 13:40

LOW-SLUNG JEANS WEARING insecurity pros in the US are being asked to take part in a Symantec-backed rap music contest.

The Hackiswack competition offers prizes for anyone in the US who wants to spit sixteen bars about cybercrime and is backed by the laid-back rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg.

Rap ain't no playground so of course there are some rules to follow. Rappers must limit their rappings to less than two minutes, and must include anti-cybercrime messages including "identity theft, malware, spam, and credit card fraud".

So far there are a few entries, each of which will take you into a world of cringe-inducing cyber rap - which we have dubbed C-rap - and show us people who choose to wear their baseball caps at odd angles and rap in front of toy tricycles to chilling effect.

The Norton website says that anyone who enters stands a chance of winning two tickets to a Snoop conference, a Toshiba laptop, and the chance to meet the great rapper, as well as months of mickey-taking from their friends.

Entries will be whittled down to the five best, which shouldn't be too hard given that there are currently only seven, before a final winner will be selected by select members of Snoop Dogg's management team - as opposed to, say, Snoop himself.

Norton advises us to have fun, 'fo shizzle', so dash it - we tried our hands at a rap.

STOP! Scammertime!

Stop, collaborate and listen,
Symantec's gone mad with a pr invention
It's trying to gain attention, through some rapper association
And some other things, we can't be bothered to mention

Symantec will remove your security glitches
like Canesten does itches
its not about disrespecting bitches,
but protecting your switches

Norton will stop your bitchin'
By removing all the phishin'
If you want some trojan remission
Fix up, and get this shizz in

It's developed some great heuristics
sending those script kiddies ballistic
it even offers advice, tools and plans
to keep your cash outta scammers hands

But now its up to some antics
looking for hype words and theatrics
about phishing, and some shit
we thinks it should quit.

And we out! Nerd to the mutha... µ
