Duracell makes it easier to charge your gadgets

And go on and on and on
Thu Sep 02 2010, 11:53

ENERGIZER BUNNY BATTERY MAKER Duracell has started flogging its Mygrid wireless charging pad in Blighty.

The product allows drop-and-go charging for up to four devices at once, and prevents the need for lots of cords when you are recharging your gear.

duracel-mygridAll you do is stick a Duracell Power Sleeve or Power Clip onto your device and plonk it on the pad to start it charging, all wirelessly.

The wireless changing pad automatically stops charging when the devices are fully charged so there is no wastage and no risk of overcharging. It also charges things at the same speed as a normal plugged-in charger.

Duracell seems to be targetting those who have an armoury of mobile phones and other gadgets. There are accessories available for the Iphone and Ipod Touch, the BlackBerry Curve and Pearl, Nokia handsets and all phones and smartphones that have a micro-USB or mini-USB charging port.

It does have a few safely features such as a detector that can tell when you have just spilt beer or your loose change on it and switches it off. µ

For added FAIL

For added FAIL, it's wireless.

No doubt wireless was chosen because it's always wonderfully easy to troubleshoot, and perfectly reliable. Highly efficient too ;)

What the fsck is wrong with a developing a standard charging cable for all devices...

pure shit

This, as other similar offers, all fail due to the fact that you HAVE TO BUY SEPARATE SLEEVES for each devide, and these sleeves cost like 2x a normal plugin charger! How full of shit are they?

Can't really see the point

So I'm expected to buy a charging mat and to buy and to fit bulky charging sleeves to all devices I want to charge this way?

If the devices had the cordless charging circuit built in then maybe I could see the point and the value of this.

Its not that hard to just use the default mains charger.

Excellent journalism...

...except for including a URL or the pricing (£70 for the charger and £30 each for the sleeves).

Did the press release you re-typed not mention those?
