Microsoft gives Activesync revolutionary synchronisation

Syncs some data if you don't run Android
Tue Aug 31 2010, 13:41

ALTERNATIVE WEBMAIL SERVICE Hotmail has had its synchronisation features upgraded by Microsoft to allow users to coordinate their email, calendars and contacts between devices.

The Vole, fresh from messing up a major overhaul of Hotmail, announced that it has updated Exchange Activesync (EAS) to support synchronisation. The idea is that your devices, including Apple's Iphone and Ipad, that use Exchange can now share data.

We're not sure if the Vole is trying to sell this as some sort of cutting edge feature or not, because frankly, it isn't. Apple set up something similar years ago with its Mobile Me service and Google's plethora of services have done this and more for years. But nevertheless, we'll let Microsoft have its moment in the sun for finally catching up, partly, with its competition.

Some of Microsoft's users who, lets be honest, push the boundaries of loyalty by suffering at the hands of the Vole for so long, are not impressed by this development. One commented, "This would have been cool about 5 years ago!"

However, many Android users have been reporting various problems even after using EAS settings provided by the software tinkerers in Redmond.

It almost beggars belief that until now, EAS, a system that Microsoft proclaims is supported on 300 million devices, has only just received relatively basic synchronisation. One almost wonders when the bloated software monopoly's upcoming Windows Phone 7 will get features like ringtones. µ

Windows Mobile Phone with Hotmail Live only shows 50 emails.

50 emails is the limit with Windows Mobile Phone 6.1 and Hotmail Live. That's it, only the 50 most recent emails are shown.

Will ActiveSync fix this limit?

Configuring Outlook for a Hotmail account still causes the stupid 50 email limit. Even though other Outlook accounts can show more than 50 emails.

Gmail shows over 50 emails. Outlook "All Accounts" shows over 100 emails. Hotmail is always 50 emails.

Is this 50 email limit still going to exist in Windows Mobile 7?

The phone is a HTC Touch HD Win Mob 6.1.

PS -The Inq, did you know that if you open a few Inq pages in tabs and comment on 2 at once then the image-gotcha doesn't work? Commenting screen is so slow at loading that I open each Inq page on a seperate tab.

Ringtones ? Oh come on !

Ringtones can be sold for a hefty margin. MS is not going to miss out on such an easy way to sucker in some cash, and, as a matter of fact, already has implemented the technology.

At least, according to this article it has : http://mobiputing.com/2010/03/windows-phone-7-series-wallpapers-ringtones-now-available/
