Verizon rolls out Android 2.2 'Froyo'

HTC Incredible owners get it
Mon Aug 30 2010, 10:56

US TELCO Verizon Wireless started rolling out Android 2.2 to HTC Incredible owners over the weekend.

Users had been waiting somewhat impatiently for Verizon to put out the latest version of Google's Android OS, codenamed 'Froyo'.

Froyo provides a 450 per cent performance boost over 2.1, native support for Flash 10.1, USB and WiFi tethering, Apps2SD and cloud sync.

Rival Android mobiles including the Nexus One, the HTC EVO 4G and the original Motorola Droid have already been updated to 2.2. The Motorola Droid 2 smartphone launched with the updated software already under the bonnet.

The Dell Streak, Motorola Droid X, HTC Mytouch 3G Slide and Samsung Captivate have all had Android 2.2 promised, but with no timetable in place it seems the manufacturers are not in a hurry.

The HTC Incredible rollout of Android 2.2 should be finished by the end of the week. µ

verizon is lame

First, verizon's web site is incredibly slow.

Second, using their search facility, no useful information can be found about the froyo update.

Third, learning about US phones will teach you to love your local phone companies because the US corporate model for cellphone companies is so incredibly lame, not consumer oriented, dictatorial, cartelish. Either that, or way too many US consumers must want it that way.

Upgrade Downside

I haven't seen any mention of the tendency for FroYo, aka 2.2, to drain the battery 2 or 3 times as fast. What's up with that?

Update Flaw'ed

I've had Windows Mobile, Blackberry and now Droid X from Verizon. Verizon is known to delay updates for months although the vendors have already released the updates, months before.

As for the screwed phones, the majority upgraded their phone without enough charge on the phone. When the charge is gone and you are still at least 50% installing, there goes your phone.

Droid 2.2 upgrade

One thing this article doesn't mention Is that the upgrade screwed up half of the phones that downloaded the software "upgrade".
When I went to Verizon to say that my phone had been messing up since the download, thier comment was "At least your phone is still working. Half of the phones were killed completely! "

O_o

And tell us please why do we care about US versions of phones delayed software update? At all I might add? They themselves don't care much, and those that do found the needed info a long time ago.
