Gmail resend bug gets fixed

SENDERS AND RECIPIENTS can breath a sigh of relief in the knowledge that Google has fixed a bug that caused Gmail messages to be re-sent multiple times.

Gmail users had taken to support forums creating multiple threads to voice their displeasure, with some complaining about email being sent dozens of times to the same recipients.

Google acknowledged a "service disruption" on its App Status Dashboard yesterday and it continued to provide updates on the status of a fix.

"We're experiencing an issue affecting less than 2.5 per cent of the Google Mail user base. The affected users are able to access Google Mail, but are seeing error messages and/or other unexpected behaviour," the description read.

"Certain messages sent by affected users are being re-sent multiple times. We are working to implement a fix for this issue, after which point some of these messages may be re-sent one final time."

The issue appears to have been resolved, according to the latest update posted in the Gmail forum by Google employee 'Mr Evan'.

"My understanding is that the last duplicate emails should have gone out around the time this issue was posted as 'resolved' on the Apps Status Dashboard at 10:27pm Pacific Time," he noted. µ
