Galaxy Tab will take on rumoured mini Ipad

Samsung targets upcoming 7-inch Ipad, claim sources

KOREAN JUGGERNAUT Samsung is preparing to demonstrate its Galaxy Tab at IFA 2010, which will be held 3-8 September in Berlin, Germany.

According to Digitimes, Samsung's tablet PC is not being targeted at the current Ipad but rather one that Samsung expects Apple to make soon.

Upstream component makers believe that Apple is about to release a 7-inch screen mini Ipad soon and the Galaxy Tab will be aiming to compete with that, Digitimes claims.

Although it has a smaller screen, the Galaxy Tab has more than enough to give the existing Ipad a run for its money. Leaked footage has shown it runs the Android 2.2 operating system and has a 7-inch touchscreen display, forward and back facing cameras and Flash.

Due to a drop in netbook sales in the European market, Samsung is putting more focus on tablet PC R&D and hopes the segment will help cover the shortfall. It wants to flog 100,000 tablet PCs per month initially. µ
