INDUSTRY WATCHER Isuppli reckons that nothing will be able to challenge Apple's Ipad until next year.
Tablets haven't caused this much fuss since Moses met that burning bush, and Isuppli said that Apple will rule the tablet gadget roost until 2011, giving it the market lead well into 2012.
This year alone, the firm said, the Ipad will take almost three-quarters of the tablet market, leaving the remaining share to be fought over by a mix of 'older PC-type tablet products and competitive slates'. The Ipad will hover over the competition like some glowing deity for a good year, Isuppli thinks, and it doesn't expect to be wowed by any other device by any other manufacturer until some time next year.
A year later than that tablet buyers will still, for the main, choose to swallow Apple's medicine, and the Ipad will own two thirds of the market, according to Isuppli.
But that won't be for lack of any competition, apparently. "Although the iPad has been on the market for only a few months, powerful interests throughout the technology business are devoting enormous resources to challenge and topple Apple's domination in this fast-growing marketplace," said Rhoda Alexander, director of monitor research at Isuppli.
"However, if recent history is any lesson, it will take some time for these companies to get their products to market, longer for them to offer necessary software support and infrastructure, and an even lengthier period to begin to rival the overall user experience Apple is able to deliver."
Isuppli said that the Ipad is in a similar position as the Iphone was when it was first released. That is, people like it, and other manufacturers want to copy it. However, it cautioned developers against apeing the design and form of the Ipad, as they did with the Iphone, and urged them to differentiate their hardware. Lord only knows how, maybe by making it spherical? Whatever they do might be moot anyway, since if the market is as keen on the Ipad as Isuppli apparently is, they might as well not bother.
"Companies are quickly developing products that match or exceed some of the surface hardware specifications of the Apple iPad," Alexander added. "But it's still unlikely that any of the competitors will be able to equal the overall performance experience of the Ipad. On that basis-an integrated hardware/software design-we don't see anything in the marketplace at present that seems likely to rival what Apple is offering in tablets today." µ
Inevitably, the author just simply connect Moses, Burning Bush and Tablet, since these are the keyword that people remember him, but the Tablet is not given during the burning bush common' man !
I call SPAM on all the Aneesoft converter posts...not just limited to the inq either in their defence.
in my opinion , i think ipad is invincible , whether the gipad , the BB ipad or Samsang , they all can’t beat ipad ~ i am using ipad and i support it . if you get a ipad , if you also a movie fans , you must download a Aneesoft ipad video covnerter like me which will give you another surprise ~
Some of us are just waiting for ANY company to release an Android device. I hear about this tablet flood but I don't see it.
yesterday i read a news which says sth like mac touch, i think if that come out i will go for a mac touch, i now use the ipad morse as a ebook reader and a video watching device, yet i have to say I love my apple ipad, and have ripped dozens of seasons of tv shows and hundreds of movies by aneesoft video converter for instant streaming. yesterday i read a news which says sth like mac touch, i think if that come out i will go for a mac touch, i now use the ipad morse as a ebook reader and a video watching device, yet i have to say I love my apple ipad, and have ripped dozens of seasons of tv shows and hundreds of movies by aneesoft video converter for instant streaming.
Ha! I love how the haters couldn't wait to proclaim the iPad as a joke and it would fail. Now it's a hit and they're still saying it'll fail. I've never owned an Apple product prior so i couldn't care eitherway, but the iPad is a great product now that I know and own one. I use it everyday for so many different things, and I'm not tethered to my office chair for hours a day anymore.
That being said, I welcome competition as it makes better products for consumers, but to proclaim other products as killers sight unseen which will be the demise of a product, is just just ridiculous. I wonder if these are the same fellows who heralded the Zune or every ipod-wannabe as a killer. The top business people always say to keep emotion in check or you'll experience failure. Well, expect to suck on failure you haters. I welcome the new pads and slates, but the iPad isn't going anywhere just because of small minded haters.
The vast majority of people who are buying the iPad are iPhone users. The saturation point for those users is approaching fast. However, going beyond that, users will want something more like the Dell Streak because it combines both a cell phone and a tablet and gives you about 90 percent of the experience of using two separate devices with two separate data plans which you'll need to fully take advantage of the devices. The 5" mini tablet form factor of the Streak will be proven to be the sweet spot for a truly mobile all-in-one take everywhere, go everywhere MID.
Touching a tablet can be fun, but I prefer touching myself.
Tablets will need capabilities far exceeding smart phones and readers.
Were not yet seeing the External Environment Interface for all of the Tableteneurs. Some interests will
want to provide you with Ad Hoc tablets, taking the kiosk to every stakeholder in a cloud; while others will want for you to hock all the cost.
Wireless Attachments should figure in heavily. When RFID technology is in fuller deployment, I expect ingenious interactions with Touch tablets.
While I fully expect Android tablets to start arriving in the next few months, Apple still has a sizable lead and Windows and WebOS are not even in the running.
And when the first usable Android tablets turn up early next year, they will most likely be up against a second generation iPad.
In the long term, I'm sure that Android will achieve market dominance but it will be few years until they do.
iPad is a very nice device but the lack of USB, Camera, and Memory Slot makes it a deal killer for me.
Just on the horizon is Android and Windows tablets. I dont consider RIM's tablet to go far. Early in 2011 even more competitive cpu/gpu combos to make tablets closer to PC's. I think Apple will have a very hard time trying to sell iPads at the prices they are when the competition will be able to sell for much cheaper, have more functions, and have as good of an OS and execution. They will still have thier die hards but thats exactly what they are die hards.
Sorry Apple but your bag of tricks is getting empty and competition is arriving soon. Android is killing the iPhone. Soon Mobile 7 will be adding to the death toll. Soon Android and Windows Mobile tablets/pads will be doing the same to the iPad.
"Apple will rule the tablet gadget roost until 2011" - it is almost September so yes it is almost a guarantee that the iPad will "rule" until 2011.
It will be out-performed a lot sooner though.
