Yahoo's search engine is no more
ALL INTERNET SEARCHES at Yahoo in the US and Canada are now using Microsoft's Bing.
According to Yahoo's search blog, the transition between Yahoo's search engine and Bing is complete and the Yahoo engine is no longer being used.
Shashi Seth, Yahoo SVP of search products, who under no circumstances can be interviewed by someone with a lisp, said that Yahoo web, image, and video searches on both desktop and mobile devices are now powered by the Microsoft platform in the US and Canada, with more markets to come.
Yahoo is still trying to work out ways to make money with the Yahoo Search BOSS programme. Apparently there are going to be search related tools for publishers soon.
Yahoo was arguably the first search engine that everyone used. Since 2004 it had its own algorithm but also leaned on Altavista and Google. Now it seems that the only things different between Bing and Yahoo will be their user interfaces. µ

thats nice to know. As LIP Surgeon, often felt that by attaching entirely new Head, Yahoo, Page A{34,i9,errrNiner, could do more to enhance average sinner than mere minor surgery. Soon have pages up, yet on Bling, errr, Bing? NO Way.Ch,Cha,Cha Cherry Bomb.

ummm not a full story... Yahoo Japan, Japan's largest Internet portal operator, will adopt Google's search engine, refusing to follow Yahoo Inc in choosing Microsoft ....

I normally prefer more competition to less competition, and I dont think a Google/Bing duopoly is a Good Thing for anyone. But Yahoos search engine was so utterly putrid that Ill gladly make an exception in this case.
And at least we can use Bing without the shitty Bing user interface now. Result!
Incidentally and FYI, AltaVista was "the first search engine that everyone used". And when AV went down the crapper, Google took its place. Since when was Yahoo ever anything but an also-ran?
