NORWEGIAN BROWSER MAKER Opera announced it has signed a non-exclusive global deal with Telenor.
The software outfit said that its Global Frame Agreement might result in a version of its Opera Mini mobile web browser adapted for use on Telenor handsets.
Under the agreement, Telenor's business units can co-brand, distribute and run the Opera Mini mobile browser.
Morten Karlsen Sørby, EVP and head of corporate development at Telenor said it wants to provide mobile Internet with a great user experience to everyone.
Opera was spun out of Telenor in the late 1990s, and has grown to become one of Norway's most successful technology exports.
The agreement between the two companies is expected to see them come up with some new ideas for the mobile web.
Sørby said that the deal will mean that Telenor gets more users by giving them an "unparalleled Internet experience" on every local operator in its network. Telenor has customers in Sweden, Russia, Bangladesh and Hungary.
The first version of Opera Mini for Telenor should become available in September. Opera Mini is the most widely used mobile browser around the world with 60 million users. µ
