Private Browsing only lasts ten minutes
STATISTICIANS at Mozilla have been looking at the use of the Private Browsing function that was introduced in Firefox 3.5.
The use of function, which gives users the option of browsing the web without keeping their history, has been somewhat ironically tracked. This has enabled the Mozzarella Foundation to work out what time and for how long people did not want their browser use recorded.
While people switch into Private Browsing mode throughout the day, there are a few periods where activation surges. Lunch time was the biggest spike, probably because people don't want their employers to know what they are looking at.
After school or work there was another spike around 5pm and another substantial peak between 9pm and 10pm. Another minor spike showed up an hour or two after midnight.
Private Browsing sessions typically lasted ten minutes, the figures showed. The longest use was only 22 minutes. So goodness knows what they are doing but it takes only about ten minutes. µ

... means that it's only good for those times when you really want to reset your cookies but rapidly recover your tabs. Less 'Hot Grandmas' and more 'Ordering flowers for grandma and this e-tailer set a cookie to prevent using this 80%-off coupon.'
Normal users probably don't give too much of a crap about cookies (or rely on them for the logins to certain 'services'), but asked for a UI that didn't leak every rude thing they'd viewed to some guest going 'hey can I look something up for a minute?'
You decide if the developers are:
1. Trying to be sex-positive;
2. Think it's hilarious; or
3. just having another Web 2.0 case of "missing the point."
/Typing this from work, but the only people looking are the ones running the packet-sniffers on the Windows bots.
Pr0ntards who switch to private browsing at work and think their employers can't see what they are browsing will probably get a shock sooner or later.

what a load, i regularly use private for over 3 hours at a time. so much for the longest being 22 mins.....
