JAPANESE OUTFIT Toshiba will roll out an Android based tablet in September or October.
Taiwanese component makers have spilt the beans to Digitimes on the details of the Toshiba tablet. While there are scant details about and Digitimes' sources are as reliable as the British summer, The INQUIRER has reason to believe the news.
The leaks say that Toshiba's Android tablet will have one of Nvidia's Tegra 2 processors and a 10-inch screen and, well, that's it, no word on memory, storage or display resolution. There's no mention of which Android version, either, although we suspect it'll be "Gingerbread" 3.0 if it's got a few months until launch still.
Apparently, the Taiwanese component makers have it pegged for an early Autumn release with between 40,000 to 50,000 units forecast.
Other manufactures have already announced tablets after the success of Cupertino's consumer toy.
Back in April The INQUIRER reported that Toshiba was planning to release a Windows and Android tablet. Toshiba head of digital products Jeff Barney said the company was considering a "variety of form factors" for its slate PCs and even mentioned a dual-screen model that would run Windows 7. He said another unit would supposedly have a screen size of "roughly 10-inches", which is pretty much the same as Apple's Ipad. And lo, it will come to pass, it seems. µ
