Vodafone's HTC Desire Android 2.2 update is 'days away'

Exclusive But no sign of 360 apps anytime soon

ANDROID FROYO FANS can rejoice as Vodafone is predicting that the update for the HTC Desire that will deliver Android 2.2 is just days away, however the network's own 360 apps have no date set for re-release.

The 360 apps were what caused Vodafone some embarressment last week when the update that added them to users' Desire Android 2.1 handsets saw the phones become slow to boot, caused them to duplicate messages and turned off their SMS bells. The automatic and unasked-for addition of bookmarks for websites like Flirtomatic and the changing of browser homepages also caused some consternation.

For users who are still suffering from the problems caused by downloading the 360 apps installing the Android 2.2 update will also uninstall the apps.

However Vodafone has told The INQUIRER that it has no date set for the release of its 360 apps for Android 2.2.

Vodafone said, "We're still developing and testing the Android 2.2 update for HTC Desire and working on its approval with Google and HTC. The start of the roll out is days, not weeks, away and as soon as the date is finalised we'll let you know".

The Android 2.2 update will be the open market version of Google's Linux-based mobile operating system along with Vodafone's network settings.

There is no word from Vodafone about when 360 apps will be available for other devices despite the fact that the company refers to those as cross-platform services. µ
