MULTI-TOUCH will be featured by Canonical in Ubuntu with the 10.10.10 build.
Ubuntu will get a system that allows users to combine touch controls, mixing multiple controls for a single gesture-based system.
Explaining what on earth all this means, South African born space tourist and open sorceror Mark Shuttleworth said on his blog, "Rather than single, magic gestures, we're making it possible for basic gestures to be chained, or composed, into more sophisticated "sentences".
"The basic gestures, or primitives, are like individual verbs, and stringing them together allows for richer interactions. It's not quite the difference between banging rocks together and conducting a symphony orchestra, but it feels like a good step in the right direction," he said.
He added that Ubuntu is using the Dell XT2 as a development platform. The ultimate goal is to incorporate touch control into all major applications by Ubuntu release 11.04. µ
I had 30 years ago!
OK not multi touch but I used a tablet and multiple sequenced gestures (and actions) to do a lot of my work then.
I've missed them - though I have been able to write about how I missed them in a multitude of fonts styles and document formats.
