The Linux Foundation gets an SSD maker as a member

Open source encompasses solid state
Tue Aug 17 2010, 15:51

THE OPEN SOURCE army just got stronger with the addition of solid state storage systems maker Texas Memory Systems, which has joined The Linux Foundation.

Texas Memory Systems will work with The Linux Foundation and the Linux kernel community to ensure its solid state disks are supported in the mainline kernel. Texas Memory Systems wants its Linux using customers to have technical support for their drives as soon as they're out of the box.

"Linux is key to our long-term success," said Jamon Bowen, director of sales engineering at Texas Memory Systems. "There is an enormous amount of innovation within the open source community, primarily driven through collaborative development." µ

SSD's are amazing

I think SSD's offer still the biggest boost compared to any other hardware upgrade. Prices have been steadily falling over the last few month and seem to continue this trend. Especially now as 2xnm NAND parts become available. OCZ for example offers a 60GB Vertex for $109 which is almost 50% less than just a couple of month ago.

SSD a dream

SSD is just a dream unless your rich. After a few years the price is still to high to justify, at least for me. HHD have never been lower.
