HAVING ALREADY shipped out four previews of its IE 9 browser for the developer community, Microsoft has started hyping up its consumer release.
Internet Explorer 9 promises a number of improvements and the last preview release earlier this month was supported by a bunch of fairly diverting and amusing examples of its powers. Microsoft talked up its use of HTML5, the number of downloads already made, the reception the release got at the Mix10 conference and its many interoperability improvements.
Microsoft will release the consumer preview on 15 September, and is asking bloggers, beardies, the press and developers who want to go and get a free tee shirt, mousemat or pen, to answer a question on its HTML5 web site.
It's not really a question, more of a challenge. Actually, challenge is too strong a word. It is a six letter anagram. The puzzle, "Unlock the _ _ _ _ _ _ web", uses the letters "V E A N T I" and the solution is a single word, according to James Pratt, who is a mouthpiece for the Vole.
We can tell you that it is not "Antvie", and nor is it "Van I et", however it might be "Native". µ
Good = speed + HTML5 support
!Great = many Windows users would be left in the cold...
But but not all is lost... quite a few modern browsers out there for grab, and for free...
So we are still talking only Beta ?
Read party and thought release :/
For whoever asked for XP,
do you really expect.. things to be continually released for such an old OS ?!
I really liked Win3.1 for a while too.. but after learning Win95 it was better.. I think you will find the same eXPerience if you try something more recent, like say Windows 7.
2001 called and wanted its OS back!
This is 2010, please get with the times and get on with your life!
It is great that IE9 is exclusive for Vista and Win 7.
Who gives a damn, release something on XP!
Code Barrel should be IE9 compliant!
Native refers to the gpu being used for the graphics display through Direct2D, to the Javascript rewrite to bare metal and to html 5 wonders which makes plugins more unecessary to interact with the native internet.
