Ipad 2 should have Flash, but no camera

What is on the Ipad user wish list?
Fri Aug 13 2010, 13:25

PROSPECTIVE Ipad 2 buyers are an expectant and demanding bunch, according to a German shopping website.

The German online shop Gutschein-codes.de, conducted a survey of 3,000 people happy to answer questions about a device that doesn't exist and wax lyrical about what they would like to see on it. And to think that people say business slows down in the summer.

Top wants were Flash support, which is bound to fall on deaf ears in cappuccino land, and USB ports, which are also unlikely to appear, having already been omitted on the current version.

Fully 48 per cent of respondents wanted USB support, while 48 per cent also requested Flash support - figures that will certainly lead to a fingers in the ears, 'na-na-na-naa-nah' response from Steve Jobs.

At third place in the want list was a CD or DVD drive, hardly an unusual request, and at fourth place was a built-in TV-tuner, again, pretty reasonable for something that is essentially just a screen without a stand or keyboard.

At fifth place was the request that it be waterproof and shockproof, which suggests that users wants to use the Ipad in the bath while reserving the right to throw it against a wall.

Gutschein-codes.de found that the least requested feature at 28 per cent was a camera. Say what you like about the appearance of users or their hand sizes, the Ipad makes for an unwieldy point-and-shoot device.

But remarkably, or obviously if the survey was carried out on cloud-cuckoo-land.de, most respondents said they would like Jobs' Mob to develop a standalone camera. An Itake, perhaps?

While this might be all very interesting, we doubt that anyone imagines that Apple is listening. µ

Apple isn’t going to give

Apple isn’t going to give verizon the iPhone, at least until their new contract with AT&T is up in almost 2 years…

USB Port

Well a (or better still, some) USB port(s) could solve all of those issues (bar the armour plating) at the hardware level... But I suspect that St Jobs is not quite ready to open things up so you can plug in A.N.Other TV tuner or DVD drive... I wouldn't be surprised to see a strange new plug on the ipad2, quickly followed by a range of Apple accessories to connect to it... iTuner, iDVD, iStick... All of which will be twice the price everyone else charges, but of course only they will work with the ipad2 until the Chinese manage to reverse engineer whatever Apple have done to restrict 3rd party additions.

I don't give a 5h1t about your bigoted opinion either. You're just a jealous iPervert living in Thailand. Get a life, a boy or whatever.

@Gio

The problem with Android 2.1 and 2.2 is that the MAXIMUM supported screen resolution is 854x480. This isn't useful for a 10" diagonal screen (and explains why the Streak is only 5"). Android 3.0 ups that limit to 1280 x 760, at which point Android devices can compete in the 10-12" range.

@steve t

IOS 4 has been rates comparable to android 2.1 and 2.2 surpasses it so there are plenty of devices coming out in the next couple months that are a much better option at half the price, though I do agree that dell streak isn't one of them.

@Greg

Nice theory, but wrong. Firstly the Streak currently only runs Android 1.6. There's a release of 2.1 in the wings, but no 2.2 yet and that's what you need to run flash (run being an optimistic description of what you get).

Secondly the Streak isn't designed to act as a USB host controller. The only advantage it has over the iPad is in using a micro USB rather than a proprietary cable.

Finally it's not much bigger than a mobile phone so the screen is half of the iPad's size and it has less than 1/2 of the pixels.

It's really not much of a competitor to the iPad, and until Android 3.0 we're not likely to see one.

They should just buy a Dell Streak...

...and be happy.

It boggles my mind that people would buy a device that is locked down (i.e. no microSD slot) and doesn't have Flash.

The Dell Streak has both and it's available in the U.S. starting today.

I'm not saying I'm going to buy the Dell Streak right away, because there will be tons of competing devices, from Asus and Acer and you name it, but the iPad is so feature deprived, it's a joke.

David Neal, This is the INQ FFS and no one here gives a s**t about Apple's overpriced made-in-China-by-slave-labour-crap except for the lost iFanbois! What is the point of your article? Since you're so interested in iCrap maybe you need to go write for one of Apple's "approved" purveyors of his uNholiness sTeve jObs' BS.

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
