FALLOUT from the departure of ex HP CEO Mark Hurd continues as his top aide decided to call it quits just days after her boss slung his hook.
Caprice Fimbres McIlvaine, who used to be head of internal communications at HP, was apparently instrumental in the hiring of Jodie Fisher, the former soft-core porn star turned corporate hostess and marketing consultant who filed and later settled a lawsuit against Hurd for sexual harassment. It was that lawsuit that eventually led to Hurd abruptly leaving his position in disgrace.
Now McIlvaine, who according to Fortune was some sort of 'chief of staff' to Hurd, has also left the firm with no explanation. She was reported as having been one of a select few who would arrange Hurd's diary and even traveled with the HP chief.
Questions surround McIlvaine's duties, as it seems she was also responsible for organising HP events, the ones where Fisher was employed as a marketing contractor to meet and greet executive guests. Apparently organising events isn't normally within the remit of a head of internal communications at a large firm, which begs the question, why was McIlvaine doing this?
Hurd's departure led to HP's stock price taking a dive and, thanks to aggressive cost cutting measures that resulted in 19,000 employees losing their jobs, many might be happy to see the back of him. Nevertheless, Hurd was widely credited with charting the company's course after Carly Fiorina's disastrous reign as CEO.
McIlvaine's departure further clears HP's decks of those involved with this latest somewhat sleazy HP saga, but it is unlikely to end the speculation about what really went on behind closed doors.
Thanks to the mysterious nature of both Hurd and his right hand woman leaving and both still maintaining radio silence, we might have to wait for either to pen a lucrative book deal before the truth finally comes out. µ
"the poor person could have just decided that the change in boss made for a convenient moment to pursue other things in their life"
I suppose the flowers are in full bloom in your cute little naive world ?
In the real world, it's called rats leaving the sinking ship. She was in the stratosphere of a high-profile company, working for a guy who made millions per month. Do you really think she was just an innocent underling ? A "poor person" who just happened to have to do the job ?
Of course not. Se is most probably well off herself, having had a salary in the tens of thousands per month, and faught tooth and nail to get where she was and keep the position. You don't get her kind of job by being nice, you know, at least, not to the underlings.
If she left, it's not to "spend more time with the kids". It's because she's the obvious fall guy in the first place, and she's going to be in the firing line for legal pressure if ever it comes to that.
By resigning, she just did what was necessary to throw water on the growing fire and distance herself from all the sleaze that was obviously happening.
I wonder how many call-girl addresses she has ? I mean, if she "organized" events without being in charge of them, can they really be official ones ?
What a sleazy innuendo-driven article: "Unlikely to end speculation what really went on behind closed doors".
"Events ... isn't normally within the remit of internal communications" might well be true. But every company has it's organisational oddities, usually because of someone willing or talented stepping up to do the work, whatever the position description on their name badge.
I very much hope you have off-the-record sources which support the tone and implications of your writing.
Otherwise, the poor person could have just decided that the change in boss made for a convenient moment to pursue other things in their life. That has happened at all the companies I've worked at when a CEO has left. In which case the person doesn't deserve your mud flinging.

“Yes, I agree with you both!”
The last company I worked for, during the DOT COM boom and bust era, had the same problem. Kewill.com employed about 150 staff in the UK and US. They paid their CEO £524K (over $1M) + £2M in shares per year, the CFO £187k (over $350K) + Share options, the COO (god knows, but must have been over £100k ($160K) + share options. We then had a load of redundancies around 2000, and most admin and peripheral staff lost their jobs. Our work-load increased by around 75% while they continued ‘working’ for their obscene salaries.
I vividly remember sitting in on a conference call, with all location-specific staff present, to hear that the CEO tell us that cuts were going to be made... On the call was another location in the UK, where a developer there asked why we were facing huge job losses while they continued to earn a totally obscene salary: the response was, .......nothing i.e. not answering the question....
I didn’t lose my job, but many people did.
When I asked my ‘Line Manager’ why these people earned SO much money his reply was, Dave, they need the money for their houses and cars.
All I could think was, “what a bunch of complete arse holes....”
I also asked him, “do you think I could do their job for a lot less?”
He said, “Yes I do, but the place they have fort for, means they won’t give it up. Would you?”
....I left that shit hole as soon as I could.
When I talk about this kind of experience with my friends, some still say the same thing: “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!”
Others say, that’s not right!
Either way, it seems that if I disagree with this kind of bullshit I’m classed as a communist (mainly US and right-wing believers) Or, if I want to become a sycophant, jump ship at the slightest sound of an alarm bell, or simply ‘get to the top’ with no conscience of stepping on anybody’s face that get’s in my way, I can have it all....
Recipe: “How To Get To The Top”
1) Trust no bastard
2) Step on anybody that gets in your way
3) Have no conscience
4) Kiss everybody’s arse that counts
5) Lie your arse off and blame everybody else
6) Stick together, even if they are a bunch of arse holes, as long as they don’t use you as a way out
7) Being able to sleep well at night by not giving a shit about the people you stepped on or those who lost their jobs along the way
8) Not being a team player by finding your teams weaknesses and using that against them
9) Admitting liability or fault for a decision, even if you made it
10) “Hugging Trees” i.e. not sharing information that may benefit other people
11) Don’t call your superiors a c**t even if you think they are
12) Etc. Etc. Etc.
Long and short:
My mate Rich said to me, “Dave, if you don’t like where you’re at, get another better paid job man!”
My mate Steve said, “Dave, if you were in their shoes wouldn’t you be happy with the salary and justify your existence?”
Yeah, yeah... alright!
If you can live with yourselves and don’t end-up as a survivor on a desert island with me, you go for it. As for me, well, I can get a good night’s sleep at the moment!
to have the guillotine dismantled by absorbing governments, buying up land and creating a system that generates unrecoverable debt. Looks like the only thing they haven`t got is our freedom.

Thats the American dream foisted on the public. Teaches young people what real(phony)American Values are, because these are our leaders that set the standard for you and me to achieve.I believe the rot that is festering from within America will eventually do America in, if it already hasn't started.
But save your rage for the fact that Hurd is getting 28 or 35 (depending on source) MILLION in severance. No matter *what* CEOs do, they come out ahead.
It's not even out of the question that Hurd and Fisher conspired to bring this about. There's no obvious downside: at the exclusive clubs, all Hurd has to do is drop a few innuendos of what he was *really* doing, how much corporate money he squandered on private excesses, and his ilk will be in awe and envious of his "celebrity".
So, here's the bottom line: Hurd screws around, robs the corporation, and gets upwards of $28 million for *being* corrupt. -- While if you did a tiny fraction of it, you'd be fired and the company would contest unemployment payments.
The Rich live by entirely different rules than you and I. Let's get the guillotines ready to equalize things again.
