EBOOK MAKER Plastic Logic has cancelled its Que Proreader a few months after it wowed the CES show earlier this year.
The Que Proreader did look the business. It used E-Ink Vizplex technology in a shatterproof display the size of a regular piece of paper at 8.5x11-inches, and it had 3G wireless capabilities and a business-centric ebook store.
But the reader was hit by many delays and excuses, and now it seems that Plastic Logic has changed its product strategy to market a second-generation Proreader.
Plastic Logic CEO Richard Archuleta said that the product had been so delayed that the market had dramatically changed.
"It no longer makes sense for us to move forward with our first generation electronic reader. It was a hard decision, but is the best one for our company, our investors and our customers," he said.
Plastic Logic said that it will take its time and re-enter the market after it manages to refocus, redesign and retool the Proreader product.
Archuleta said that it is still perfecting the core plastic electronic technology and manufacturing processes.
Plastic electronics technology uses thin, lightweight readers that are still unmatched in the marketplace of traditional silicon semiconductor glass-based display products, he claimed.
Well, we will believe it when it hits the shops. µ
The article was not well-researched. I worked on an E-Ink project at Bell Labs ages ago; a joint venture with the group spun-off from MIT. A fantastic technology. LRS
