THE WORLD PLUS DOG has been talking about a rush of tablets that will flood the market, which have not really appeared.
Now it seems that Samsung is actually going to release one next month at the IFA consumer electronics show taking place in Germany from September 3.
It has been a long time coming. While Apple introduced its Ipad tablet in January, it had been the worst kept secret in the industry and rumours began to spread that Samsung was developing a rival device.
Originally observers called it the "S-Pad" but it has now been dubbed the "Galaxy Tab" after the company's Android-based Galaxy S smartphone line.
According to the Joongang Daily, Samsung will show off a smart TV, an interchangeable lens camera and a tablet PC at the show.
Its source said that the device is known to run Google's Android operating system and feature a 7-inch touchscreen and a video call function. The video call software will mean that it has something on the Iphone other than the price, which is expected to be much less.
Kim Hwan, VP of Samsung's mobile communications division said that a tablet will be released first in Korea during the third quarter. Other manufactures have all said that their tablets will arrive by Christmas. µ
