Amazon opens a Kindle shop in the UK

ONLINE FLOGGER OF BOOKS Amazon has opened its first Kindle e-book reader store in the UK, promising that it will offer more than 400,000 titles for download.

Prices of some bestsellers are as low as £1.89, which should make for a brilliant start to the establishment of e-readers in the UK. The company is hoping that the opening of the store will help it maintain its market position in the face of increasing competition from Apple's Ipad and other tablet PCs and e-book readers.

Amazon's unveiling of its UK Kindle Store comes after it launched an all-out assault on rival e-book reader devices such as the Barnes & Noble Nook and Sony Reader by introducing a redesigned WiFi-only Kindle that sells for £109 in the UK.

However there is one area where even Apple appears to be leading Amazon in the e-book race. It can get its overpriced toys into the shops.

Amazon's Kindle, on the other hand, you cannot buy in the UK because the online retailer has apparently run out of stock, and that after all of its marketing against the Kindle's competiton. It seems you will not be able to buy one until 8 September. µ
