Toshiba releases Cell Regza LCD tellies

3D technology going mainstream
Wed Jul 28 2010, 10:30

IT'S 3D MADNESS at Toshiba as it shows off its Cell Regza LCD TVs that offer eye boggling capablities.

The tellies use Toshiba's Cell Broadband Engine to handle multimedia processing. The three LCD TVs - the Cell Regza 55x2 and the Cell Regza slim 55xe2 and 46xe2 - with this engine also use Toshiba's 3D "Super Resolution Technology" that apparently upgrades 3D content to superior near high definition content. But what p that is we have no idea. Its just taking it probably.

But there is more, be amazed at the 2D/3D conversion technology that Toshiba tells us allows users to see 2D content as near "high definition quality" 3D but we still don't know what p this is, whether its near 720p or even nearer 1080p.

It does this amazing feat by capturing and analysing image composition and movement in the 2D content and converting it to 3D with "precise rendering".

The 3D system sends content to the left and right eye through the "side-by-side system" that Toshiba says is now the most widely adopted for 3D broadcasts. Of course, who didn't know that! But you still need the funky battery powered active shutter glasses.

The TV sets will be in the shops in October, at least if you live in Japan. No word on price yet, but we expect them to be expensive. µ
